Told in a personal voice, Catskill River Cottage sits somewhere between a photographic journal and a diary. It shares the ups and downs of construction in an honest, un-glorified way. The photographs were taken on smartphones, without any intention of being published, and are presented unmodified – preserving their immediacy and authenticity.
With no prior building experience, Susanne and Terje approached the project through discovery, trial and error, and steep learning curves, all of which they lay bare on the page. This is not a how-to book, but a testament to the love of learning, and to how patience and perseverance can, over time, result in something both beautiful and good.
